The lack of knowledge and experience leads to contradictory statements about plant growth. In fact, the response of plants to light and the influence of light on plant growth are very simple subjects.
The light from the sun, which we think is white, is actually a mixture of different colors. The main colors of a light are red, blue and green.
It is impossible to give a definite answer, which color is more suitable for indoor plant growth. Plants need both red and blue light. These two colors have different effects on plants.
Most plants look green. Because leaves reflect green light on a large scale. The green light reflected by plants reaches our eyes and makes us see green.
The leaves of plants are not red or blue. Because the spectrum absorbs these parts. In other words, plants absorb blue and red light and use this energy to grow, rather than reflect them.
Red light is basically responsible for plant flowering and fruit production. Red light is necessary for seed germination and root growth. Red light in the wavelength range of 600-700nm is used to support the development of plants and improve the taste of fruits.
Blue light provides plants with chlorophyll, the most active pigment in photosynthesis. Plants that receive a lot of blue light will have strong, lasting and healthy stems and leaves. Blue light in the wavelength range of 400-500nm is used to support the development of stems and green leaves.
Outdoor plants can fully obtain blue and red light under the irradiation of natural light. Some parts of the indoor spectrum may have some defects. If the stem and the part connecting the stem and leaves are too long, and if the leaves lose green, it means that the plant does not get enough blue light. If the plant does not bloom, it may lack red light.
Different lights can be used for red and blue lights. In addition, special plant growth lamps can be used to provide red and blue light at the same time. Even in cold winter, if you don't depend on the season and use the right light, you can grow many vegetables and fruits.
