Ultraviolet A (UVA) is from 320-400nm and comprises about 3% of the photons in natural sunlight that make it through Earth's atmosphere. UVA lights for plants do not damage DNA.
Typically, indoor grows, especially within greenhouses lack UV light. But real outdoor sunlit environments contain levels of UVA and UVB light.
Cannabis is the best example. UV light forces it to create more resin to protect itself, which means higher THC and CBD levels. For that reason, many marijuana growers look to add UV light to the final few weeks of the grow, when it has the most effect on the final product.
1. Faster Photosynthesis
Ultraviolet light has been shown to help speed up the process of photosynthesis and lead to increased plant growth.
2. Increased Root Production
UV light can reach roots, and limited exposure also helps increase root mass.
3. The supplemental UV LED grow lights could be used in the cannabis flowering stage, help with increasing the THC content of cannabis.
4. UVA has also been shown to directly decrease fungal pathogen growth by inhibiting sporulation.
If you want to reap bigger yields for your plants, giving them a full spectrum of light that includes UV light will definitely help.
