Far Red Light: Electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between 700-800nm.
People become strong in adversity, and so do plants. Friedrich Nietzsche once said, "What does not kill me, makes me stronger.". Far-red light will not harm plants, but it will create a competitive environment for plants.
When receiving far-red light, the plant thinks its living space is blocked by other tall plants. Its very existence is threatened. To do this, they try to grow taller and larger, capturing more light for photosynthesis. Branching is reduced as they use most of the available resources for extended growth. Some species may also improve their competitiveness by seizing more resources.
In many long-day plants, FR greatly reduces the time required for flowering. Because FR increases the size and photosynthesis of plants, enabling plants to collect more energy for reproduction.
